Challenge of the Califoria Iron Chef

Bay Area Live Battle, April 25

Traditionally, the Iron Chef bio and challenge is issued in as campy and annoying a style as possible. Since I don't have enough of an ego to announce that I have the cooking skills of God, I've done my best to write something up that was in the genre, but a wee bit more reasonable.

Hai-ke. Tatakai!

It has come to my attention that a worthy challenger has entered the kitchen stadium, offering her great reputation and the honor of her esteemed Jewish ancestors to the glory of our confront. I am pleased to accept her challenge, and I will strive to do my best with the skills befitting a California Iron Chef.

Trained from childhood to appreciate the subtle and complex fusion of Japanese and California palates in my family, I have brought the cutting edge of fusion perspective to a broader horizon in my culinary accomplishments. Beginning by mastering the skills of ancient French and European cuisine, I have been decorated with several high awards in the Renaissance Pleasure Faire's cooking competition and been recognized by their Guilds.

True skill lies in mastering both ancient and modern technique and creating innovations that are genuinely new taste sensations. And from ancient to modern, there are no culinary extremes to which I will not go, and no ingredient I will not dare to treat boldly in the kitchen stadium.*

The ingredients for the recipes I choose are the finest and most diverse, and my standards of selection exacting enough that I must personally supervise their harvest and preparation. I wield a chef's knife that has prepared innumerable sumptuous delicacies from their very beginnings, starting with the vegetables in their soil and the livestock I insist on choosing at their very height of perfection.

I welcome the challenger to the stadium, and I welcome the opportunity to share my intense dedication to furthering the art of truly fine cuisine in our mutual homeland of California. I will show honorable hospitality by sharing my cupboard of rare ingredients with the worthy challenger, and I look forward to seeing her creations. Regardless of who is victorious in our battle, we will both have made our contributions to the culinary world.

Allez cuisine,

Tanith Tyrr

* English translation: This is a fair warning that I might make ice cream out of the main ingredient, even if it's gross. ;)
